Metro Manila, Philippines - Like a scene from a recent (supposedly) satirical movie starring environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio, a video of an impassioned speech from NASA climate scientist Peter Kalmus during a protest organized by Scientist Rebellion went viral online.

“We’re going to lose everything,” Kalmus said in the video, “and we’re not joking, we’re not lying, we’re not exaggerating.”

Protests were organized in over 25 countries by over 1,000 scientists to highlight the urgency of meeting the world’s climate goals, as detailed in a United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report released earlier this month. “I feel actually genuinely desperate and terrified,” Kalmus said. “I can see so clearly where we’re heading in terms of climate change, and I don’t sense any momentum or any intention on the part of world leaders to actually genuinely take care of this planet and take care of this problem, which really does require ending the fossil fuel industry as quickly as possible.”

To reach the Paris Agreement’s climate goals to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius, the IPCC has warned that global emissions should peak by the year 2025. “It’s now or never, if we want to limit global warming to 1.5°C (2.7°F),” said IPCC Working Group III Co-Chair Jim Skea. “Without immediate and deep emissions reductions across all sectors, it will be impossible.”

Following the viral video, the hashtag #LetEarthBreathe trended on social media sites together with infographics on how individual actions can help curb climate change. While large-scale action remains in the hands of government bodies, policymakers, and mega-corporations, the average human being still yearns in protecting the only planet it can call home. So how can you help?

As burning of fossil fuels is the reason why large amounts of carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere, it is imperative that a switch to clean and renewable energy must be made. Renewable energy minimizes carbon pollution and has a much lower impact on our environment. According to National Renewable Energy Laboratory, when you produce about 1000 kWh of electricity using solar panels, you reduce emissions by more than 1,400 pounds of carbon dioxide. A solar panel with a projected 28 years of operation would significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 100 tons.

With extensive performance and product warranties, our 100% German solar systems can generate clean and renewable energy for your home or business for years on end - helping you cut your electric bill, lessen dependence on fossil fuels, and help in letting the earth breathe.
